Lee Friedlander
Lee Friedlander is an American photographer who at first glance was a photographer who seems to pay attention to his surroundings and make a simple view into something unique. Within his photos he uses framing and reflections and the way he captures those elements in his photos is intriguing and draws you into wanting to go to the exact place. Frielander is commonly known for his street in his photos in where he takes streets from cities or windows from stores and makes reflections of himself or others. One of the quotes that represents Freidlander type of photography is when he says "You go out and the pictures are staring at you"(Artnet.com). With hearing this quote it gives people an idea on how all Friedlander photos are produced.
Friedlander passion for photography started the early age of fourteen, and he decided to pursue photography in college. A few awards the Friedlander has won is Guggenheim Fellowships, National endowment for the arts of Fellowships, MacArthur Foundation award. Besides winning many awards, Lee Friedlander has been able to have different types of exhibition of different places capturing a certain element in each specific project. Friedlander street photography is described when viewed as giving in "energetic conjunctions of life and commerce"(artsy.net/artsy/lee friedlander). Indicating that Friedlanders photos are what gives a simple view for a passerby as something beautiful when put an a certain angle.
Some photos that seems to capture some of Friedlander's work and his uniqueness is shown below. These photos are photos from his street photography like reflections, signs, and landscape which are really beautiful and artistic. The pictures shown can be interpreted in different ways as in its no specific symbolism that Friedlander has its just what you see it as. As my intreperatation of the his photos that are shown below it could be that he wants to depict daily activities as something artistic. As for other pictures like combining to different views into looking as one it gives something new and creates curiosity in the mind of someone seeing that photo.
