Steve McCurry Blog

Steve McCurry is an American photographer from Philadelphia, PA who has created images "retaining the human element"(Steve McCurry.com/bio). What makes McCurry image captivating is "The Human Element" which is photos that have people in an image. McCurry uses people of different backgrounds, cultures, or traditions. The photo of the "Afghan girl" shows McCurry representing a beautiful child who seems to be distraught or concerned. Within the photo he captures emotions of Sharbat Gula while she looks at the camera making the appearance seem so intriguing into finding the symbolism in it.

Steve McCurry was one of the first to show the brutality of the Russian invasion making his past and current photos unforgettable. A fact about Steve McCurry that makes him stand out as a photographer is on his way to the Pakistan border, he sowed film on his clothes. What makes this fact so impressive is it shows McCurry's dedication to getting the photos he took and show the public what he captured. His photos draws you in giving some timelessness and mystery(https://photogpedia.com/steve-mccurry/). Giving another reason why McCurry photos are so interesting and different from other photos.

The following images I decided to pick from Steve McCurry photos are images that show the human element and how they capture different conflicts, culture, or tradition. The first picture is taken in Afghanistan, 2003 and it showing a kid from the streets of Kabul known as a "Spandi" who wards off evil energy with burning seeds of a plant and exchange for money. In the second picture it shows dogs sleeping in the morning sun and it shows the struggle of being warm as a street dog. In the third picture we see some surfers but mainly the first surfer is surfing an a unlikely area that you would see a surfer which makes the picture interesting. The Suri tribe is shown in the last picture and shows a culture converging as in showing kids of a tribe doing daily kids activities at the park. All of Steve McCurrys photos that is shown shows him creating images the involve different cultures and uncommon actions not usually seen.
