Carrie Mae Weems

 

   When first seeing the photographer Carrie Mae Weems I was interested in the picture of why and what made her come up with the idea of the kitchen series and her other works. It introduces a new idea of something as in our daily lives becomes something so artistic. With the Kitchen Series, we're are able to see a new perspective and story in one place. Her other works all show a story when looking at the pictures it keeps the people interested when viewing the picture. Carrie Mae Weems is a person who gives stories and significance in her pictures. 

Carrie Mae Weems is an American photographer who didn't start photography until she got her first camera in her 20s.  Weems started with environmental portraits and wanted to study more of photography. Creating famous series and a new concept for photography is what Weems contributed to photography. Weems created audio and text with an image.  Weems images speaks so many psychological concepts with a daily action that the image sets.
 

The kitchen series is one of Weems famous works but also gives her image so much composition. The images shown are some of her series of pictures. The first three are from the kitchen series and they all show the simplicity of the daily life of Weems but also a psychological perspective. The psychological perspective can be interpreted in any way but the way I see it is the closeness of different relationships Weems has with different people in her life. The last picture is from afro-chic series and it's probably Weems wanting to represent her culture and the image itself speaks a story.
